Reach Higher Program Philosophy

Training with integrity results in winning success!

The success of a Basketball Team requires all five players to contribute on the court, by being fundamentally and mentally strong, and clearly knowing their purpose and goals in a game. These characteristics and skills are also fundamentally necessary for a productive and satisfying life.  We implement a holistic approach by focusing on the five areas listed below, to ultimately promote the achievement of competitive greatness on the court and in each player’s life.

#1 – Integrity Coaching
We provide top skill coaching along with top faith based modeling coaches. Positive role models are recruited as coaches, and discipline, dedication, respect, integrity, enthusiasm, adaptability, sincerity, loyalty, and team spirit are modeled and reinforced.
#2 – Authentic Life Foundational Teaching
We provide excellent quality foundational teaching with engaging fun creative methods. Focus areas include Financial Literacy, Academic Tutoring, and Goal Mapping, encouraging player’s resourcefulness.
#3 – Conditioning
We provide excellent physical, mental, and moral conditioning to allow players to be prepared to seize opportunities. Guest speakers from all walks of life inspire our players to greatness.
#4 – Competitive Tournament Teams, Skill Camps and Leagues
We provide competitive AAU/YBOA tournament teams, enthusiastic skill development camps, and leagues for players to hone their skills during the off season. Industriousness, skills, cooperation, and team
spirit are stressed.
#5 – Be a Light in the Community by Serving Others
We provide the encouragement and opportunity for players to serve others.  We strive to impact our city with positive, Christian values, both on the court and off.

TRYOUTS / PLAYERSOpen, competitive tryouts are held to select players for the teams.  Reach Higher typically relies on word-of-mouth, and the recruitment of coaches, to attract participants for tryouts.  Teams are selected by a committee consisting of all coaches & the program director. The goal is to field competitive teams that can win "the proper way," and be a light to the other teams that they play, as well as those that see them play. To be eligible to play in the tournaments, all players must be students in good standing (this will be verified). Outstanding student-athletes will be recognized at season's end.  For more information regarding tryout dates and times, check the 'News And Information' tab.

PRACTICES:  This is the most important part of a successful sports program. Practice is held two to three times per week, depending on gym availability, school schedules & homework loads.  Practice will include teaching & discussion about life issues - besides just basketball.  This is accomplished through a combination of open forum Q&A sessions, guest speakers, our program Chaplain, and borrowing from Christian curriculums written specifically for this purpose.

TOURNAMENTS:  The teams will play YBOA, USSSA & AAU-sanctioned tournaments as well exposure events, depending on the skill level of the players.  Each team will play between six and eight competitive tournaments, starting in March.  More tournaments may be considered if a team qualifies for national championships.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:  Each team will be responsible for participating in a community service project during the season in order for our players to experience giving to others and their community.

SPONSORS / PATRONS:  Reach Higher is always looking for help, financial and otherwise, from area individuals, businesses, churches, schools & any other organizations interested in investing in the lives of these young men.  The costs of a competitive basketball program can be substantial; uniforms, shoes, national organization fees, tournament entry fees, travel expenses, the cost of gym time for practices, etc.  Because of the support that we have received since beginning in 2004, we have been able to keep the fees affordable, never having to turn a player away because of the cost.
Reach Higher is a 501c3 organization. Please contact us if interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the program.
